VMWARE ESX Infrastructure management


Daily

• Managing ESX servers & VM’s from the vSphere Client console.
• Managing ESX servers through RCLI
• Troubleshooting the alerts for the ESX servers Alarms and tasks & events.
• Configuring new Virtual machines based on the customer requirement.
• Reconfiguring the VMs like increasing CPU count, RAM, NIC etc.
• Managing Performance related issues  for ESX servers
• Perform V-Motion
• Maintaining Network connectivity  for the Virtual servers
• Creating and maintaining  snapshot  if  required
• Managing and Maintaining V-Center servers
• Adding local storage and shared storage in the ESX box.
• On-call support on non-business hours
• Performing storage V-motion from one data storage to another.


Weekly

• Managing space requirements for the virtual machines and the ESX.
• Tracking VMware Inventory report , On-call support on weekends.
• Confirming that regular backups of Virtual machines are maintained.


Monthly

• Cloning the virtual servers and VM machines in ESX servers.
• Converting the Physical server to virtual server by VMware converter or any P2V converter tools
• Reviewing and Creating VM templates.
• Including new Virtual-VLAN in the ESX servers thru vSphere console.
• Configuring and managing DRS & HA in the cluster.
• Assigning permission roles like VM users, Network users
• Configure and Managing Resource Pools
• Coordinating with other teams for (Network, Storage & Backup)


Quarterly

• Upgrading patches for the ESX server.
• Upgrading VMware tools for the VMs.
• Performing VMs restore test with help of backup team.


Yearly

• Upgrading VMware ESX version if customer requirement.
•  Installation of ESX Servers.
• Maintain disaster recovery plans, regular review to ensure D/R strategy aligns with business requirements.

VMware Activities

• New ESX servers build in rack.
• Maintaining physical network connectivity.


Daily

• Monitoring ESX host’s amber status.
• Troubleshooting ESX host hardware issue.
• Ensuring offshore remote accessibility.
• Coordinating with vendor support in data center.


Weekly

• Scheduled ESX Servers reboot.
• Physical audit ESX server’s cables in rack wise.
• Attending Change review meeting
• Internal support review meeting


Monthly

• Performing Scheduled maintenance activity


Yearly

• Upgrading VMware ESX version if customer requirement.
• Upgrading firmware in ESX host.
• Performing DR test
• Performing ESX hosts hardware upgrade.
• Maintain disaster recovery plans, regular review to ensure D/R strategy aligns with business requirements.
